Last Saturday the S'Pekin Dragons competed at the Greater Illinois District Tournament to see who would qualify to the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament held this summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Students had to place either 1st or second in their events, making it very difficult to qualify. However, Pekin had TWO students qualify outright to the tournament! They are:
Alexander Redding (senior) in Humorous Interpretation
Samantha Probasco (junior) in International Extemporaneous Speaking
Also, junior Julia McCammon placed 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation, making her the "next alternate." But, since Julia was on the bubble to outright qualifying, she also became eligible to make the District World Debates team, in which she secured her position yesterday!
Therefore, we are taking THREE students to Fort Lauderdale this June! #dragonpride
